 ***SYHA "Travel Team" Team Pictures***
1972-1980  All Pictures and games played at the Sioux City Auditorium

This was the first un-official season of high school hockey, at the time it was call Midget/Juvenile. Practices and games were played outdoors at
Hubbard Park (28th & Jones). Close to 25 high school aged players would join the new youth hockey program

The first official season of youth hockey in Sioux City. The Siouxland Youth Hockey Association (SYHA) formed.

A gaining popularity of youth hockey in Sioux City required that the eligible age was again lowered to include Mite aged players (5-7). Eight
5 year olds tip-toed on the ice that season and two of them, Duane Erickson (Metros Class of '87) and Brian Reynolds (Metros Class of '87)
became the first SYHA Players to go completely through the SYHA program.

In July of 1982 after a storm destroyed the Bubble, it was replaced with a new metal building called the Carlson Event Center.
SYHA would call this home for the next three seasons.

May and July of '82 would deal a pair of devastating blows to the SYHA program. In May of that year the Iowa DOT discovered a "cracks"
in the steel structure of the newly erected Veteran Memorial Bridge and was closed to traffic for the next two years. In June a severe storm
destroyed the Bubble but left most of the other equipment in disarray but still in a salvageable condition. SYHA was in a dilemma with no building
and no way to get there.

Enter Ted and Mary Jo Carlson and the Nebraska Inn Keepers Association. The Carlson would make arrangements for the land to be secured
as well as a new lager sized metal building be constructed on the same site. The Siouxland Ice Arena Association would transfer all equipment
and supplies to Siouxland Youth Hockey Association. The new " Marina Inn Convention Center"  was completed and ready for the start of the '83
hockey season.

In 1985-86 SYHA and Metros Hockey would return to the Sioux City Auditoruim.

The late 80's would begin a run-up to Sioux City's 1990's dominance in the IHSH & MHSHL hockey leagues.
Starting in 88 & 90 with Championship runner-up trophies, the Metros return in both 1991 & 1992 with Championship wins. After a
Runner-up finish in 93 they again would win Champion status in 94. The Metro would go on to win two more championships in
98 & 99 and close out the decade with a runner-up finish in 2000. They would again win the Championship in 2003.

The 1990's made for a Sioux City Championship streak that is by far tops in the IHSHL & MHSHL leagues with 5 Championships,
 3 Runner-up trophies!!!

Did You Know... This Bantam Team would play in the Detroit Lakes, Minnesota Tournament.  Know as one of the most competitive
tournaments in the country, it always features the best teams from all over the US and Canada. The Bantams would win their opening
games, advancing to the tournament championship.

Taking on the heavily favored Johnson-Como Devils from Minnesota, the Jr. Musketeers found themselves unable to catch the Devils
as time began to run out. But thanks to terrific goaltending by Carter Manthorne and a game tying goal by Connor Sand, with just four
seconds remaining, the Sioux City guys still had a chance. And...It didn't take long to stun the Devils and quiet the crowd as Trent
Harsma lit the lamp just a minute into the overtime period.
